What is NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a new system that is being rolled out across the country. NDIS will change how the providers of disability services are funded so that you determine where you get your own services.
The NDIS is being introduced in stages. It will be made available progressively across Victoria over the next three years. It is estimated that the transition to the NDIS for Victoria will be complete by July 2019. Detailed information can be obtained from the NDIS website on the rollout plan. For your information
Who is eligible?
To be eligible, you need to meet the following requirements:
- have a permanent and significant disability that affects your ability to take part in everyday activities
- be aged less than 65 when you first access the scheme
- be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident or a New Zealand citizen who holds a Protected Special Category Visa
The NDIS Access Checklist can also be used to assess if you are eligible to receive assistance from the
NDIS.
